Founder of By The Way Creative, serial entrepreneur Stephanie Powell certainly keeps her finger on the business pulse.  As well as running her own super successful copywriting and content biz, you can also find her at WinchestHer Magazine, where she is girl boss editor and recording The Mighty Foof podcast.  So let’s dig in and find out a little more about her…

Tell me about a woman who inspires you.

I couldn’t just pick one! I’m very lucky to be surrounded by lots of inspiring women. From my best friend and mother of my god-children, to my business partners, coaches and clients – my circle is a showcase of female talent.

Any woman that goes after her dreams and cheers on those around her is an inspiration, for sure.

When did you decide to pursue your business?

Just over 3 years ago. I’ve always had a creative flair, but I didn’t come from a business-owning family. I didn’t know that entrepreneurship was even an option until I met my husband-to-be.

He convinced me that I could do anything I put my mind to. I went out to prove him right! That month, I handed in my notice at my cushy marketing job and launched By The Way Creative from the kitchen table in my tiny flat.

What drives you creatively?

Relationships. I find the pursuit of mutual connection very exciting – that’s where I get all my ideas from. As an introvert, I can be very insular – but as soon as I get in front of a like-minded person, all the creative juices start flowing!

In terms of creative motivation, I love visualisation. I spend many a coffee break visualising my future in a country house surrounded by dogs! Hey, a girl’s gotta dream!

What is your proudest accomplishment?

In business, 2020 has actually made me exceptionally proud. By The Way is now 5 team members strong and April was my highest turnover month (so far!). We launched Wake Up & Smell The Copy, my first ever program. It feels like this year is influencing a big turning point for me.

Before that, I would have said that actually establishing By The Way Creative was proudest achievement. In the months surrounding it’s conception, I’d gone through a break up, lost a family member, been forced to move house and met a new partner. There was so much going on personally and I threw managing a business on top of it! If I got through that, I think I can get through this year, and the next.

What are you looking forward to most about Maven?

Like I said, I find other people to be the best source of motivation, inspiration and creative drive. There’s something uniquely caring about the Maven brand that I believe will really foster some exceptional connections. I can’t wait to get stuck in with some like-minded business queens!

Meeting dynamic, community driven business women such as Stephanie is what drove me to launch a female coworking space in Winchester.  Our city really is brimming with a wealth of female talent and the thought of coming together as a community to celebrate and support each other is super exciting.  Than you Stephanie, we can’t wait to see you at Maven.
